Insight bought Mercy Hospital in Chicago for $1. This is a 400 bed hospital in the middle of the third largest city in America. It’s loosing money under the management of Insight Healthcare. Why? Maybe it’s because they had to pay a $12M management fee to Insight Healthcare, Inc. A for-profit organization in Flint, Michigan. Who is paying for the losses? It's borrowed money. I guess Cook County, IL has deep enough pockets. San Benito County, CA doesn't. We can't be sending our tax money to Michigan!
The “turn-around” of the Keokuk Hospital in Keokuk, Iowa doesn’t seem to be very similar to our system either. It is a rural hospital. But, as an example of a turn-around, it falls short. 1 1/2 years in, plans to reopen are still in progress.
